Performance

The Equinox EV comes with either front- or all-wheel drive. The base FWD configuration offers 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque, while AWD models get 290 horsepower and 346 pounds of torque. Chevy equipped the SUV with a standard one-pedal driving mode, which allows the driver to stop the vehicle by lifting off the accelerator. There’s a bit of a learning curve with one-pedal systems, but using them can significantly improve brake life, as the electric motor slows the vehicle instead of brake pads and rotors. 

Chevy hasn’t announced detailed range estimates for the Equinox EV, but the SUV has impressive charging capabilities. The base model has 11.5-kW Level 2 charging, which can recover 34 miles of range per hour, and it can use DC fast charging at up to 150 kW. The Equinox can add 70 miles of range in around 10 minutes on the more rapid charger. A 19.2-kW Level 2 charging system is available for the 3RS trim, which can add 51 miles of range per hour.

Exterior

The 2024 Equinox EV looks like its gas-powered counterpart and has much of the same vibe, but there are notable differences between the two, especially when it comes to exterior dimensions. Chevrolet hasn’t detailed all exterior specifications, but in an early announcement for the EV, executives said that the new model has a nine-inch longer wheelbase and is seven inches longer than the gas model overall. It’s also around three inches wider but shrunk about an inch in height. 

Chevy equips 19-inch wheels as standard, and higher trim levels are available with 20- or 21-inch wheels. The LT trim is available with a two-tone paint job and a white roof, while the RS trims are available with a black roof. Some models also have animated approach and departure lighting features.

Interior

The Chevrolet Equinox EV seats five people and offers several upscale features. Ambient LED lighting is available, and heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heated windshield wiper feature come standard with the new base 2LT model. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is standard, and Chevy offers two interior color schemes for the 2LT trim, including black with blue accents or a light gray theme. The RS trims are available with sporty black and red interior colors, and buyers can opt for a full-on red interior theme.

Technology

Chevy equips an 11-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. Higher trims are available with a massive 17.7-inch display, but none of the Equinox EV models will come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. General Motors announced that it would not offer the features in its electric models but noted that gas vehicles would continue getting the tech. The system does have Google built-in, however, which brings a range of advanced features, including voice controls, Google Play Store functions, Maps, and more. 

Equinox EV owners can access the MyChevy app, which offers charger location features, remote vehicle information on state of charge, and other data. The EV also has access to GM’s Ultium Charge 360 service, which includes more than 110,000 public chargers in the U.S. and Canada. 

Safety

All Equinox EV models come standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which brings automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, forward collision alerts, following distance indicators, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warnings. It also comes standard with blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, reverse automatic braking, rear parking sensors, and a safety alert seat system that vibrates when a warning is needed.
