Charging Your Chevrolet EV at a Tesla Supercharger Station

Sales of electric vehicles are on the rise. With a market share of about 10% of all new vehicles sold, EVs are here to stay and are making a difference with their owners. General Motors recently reported that their third-quarter deliveries of EVs were 659,601, which includes the new Blazer and Equinox EV models. This also makes them the best-selling electric car company of the quarter.
No Other Company Compares
Electric car buyers love the advanced technology and features, especially when it comes to safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like Super Cruise, the best hands-free driver aid on the market with the ability for drivers to take their hands off the wheel on over 750,000 miles of road between the United States and Canada. The tech is available on many new Chevrolet models, including the electric Equinox, Blazer, Bolt, and Bolt EUV.

Charging is Getting Better and Easier
One issue that EVs have had over the years is a lack of chargers. However, that has quickly become an issue of the past, as multiple companies like Electrify America, Blink Charging, ChargePoint, EVgo, Volta Charging, EV Connect, Tesla, and others have all made more than 175,000 charging ports around the country. For the first time ever, the most successful charging station around the country, the Tesla Supercharger, is now available for owners of Chevrolet electric vehicles.

An InsideEVs Supercharger Review
InsideEVs reported how well the Superchargers work with a Chevrolet Bolt, owned by one of their writers. Now, only Tesla V3 Superchargers currently work with non-Tesla vehicles, and Tesla is adding more of those chargers every month around the country. Then, you will need the CCS to NACS adapter, which can be supplied by either Chevrolet or by third-party companies like A2Z or Lectron. Then, before charging, you need to make sure that your Chevy EV is linked to a payment method in the MyChevrolet smartphone app. This all may seem daunting at first, but it becomes second nature after a few uses.

How Well Did the Chevy Bolt Do at a Tesla Supercharger?
Tom Moloughney, InsideEVs’ Bolt owner and writer, seemed to have success when charging his car at the V3 Supercharger, with the only hiccup being one time when he needed to unplug and replug the charger into his car after it stalled at 70%. However, he was able to charge at the same speeds as is available at any other charging station around the country, saying, “Both third-party adapters worked just fine, funneling the maximum charge rate that the Bolt EV supports–55 kW–without hiccups. The EV needed 49 minutes to charge from 20% to 80% state of charge, which, again, is normal Bolt EV behavior … The charging curve was the same as on other charging operators such as EVgo and Electrify America.”
