Chevrolet Creates a Silverado ZR2 EV for the Mint 400

Chevrolet, in cooperation with the Chad Hall Racing Team, created an off-road race-ready Silverado ZR2 EV. It competed in the annual 2025 Mint 400, completing the course and successfully winning its class. The Mint 400 is one of the oldest and most prestigious off-road competitions in North America. The Mint 400 takes place outside Las Vegas every March. What began in 1968 as a promotion for the Mint Hotel and Casino has outlasted its namesake to become one of the most challenging off-road competitions in the U.S. Specifically, the original event lasted 20 years until the sale of the Mint Hotel and Casino. It was revived 20 years later in 2008. It has been thriving ever since, particularly due to the growing interest in off-road racing and advancements in off-road technology. 

For the Silverado ZR2 EV racing truck, Chevrolet teamed up with Chad Hall Racing, which first started racing the Mint in 2017 in a Colorado ZR2. Since then, the team has finished 53 of 54 races entered.  

Currently, there is no production ZR2 version of the Silverado EV, so the team took a production Silverado EV and provided it with the ZR2 treatment, including:  

• Lifted front and rear suspension with specific off-road tuning  
• 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires 
• The critically acclaimed Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers currently found on the Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 models 
• Locking differentials 
• Underbody skid protection 

The Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve dampers enable 13 inches of front- and rear-wheel travel and can handle everything the Mint route throws at them. Power is no issue as the production truck’s tri-motor electric drivetrain produces 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet and Hall Racing are proud that the race vehicle consists of 98% GM production parts.

While not quite a ZR2, Chevrolet plans to unveil a Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer as the EV truck’s first off-road-focused variant. So far, Chevrolet has announced that it will feature a factory-installed lift, 35-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, and red tow hooks. Chevrolet will provide more information on the Silverado EV Trail Boss as its launch date approaches.
