Chevy Trax vs Honda HR-V

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax has taken the world by storm. As a budget crossover, it has surpassed everyone’s expectations with its comfort, luxury, technology, safety, and looks. Coming in at around $27,000 for a fully loaded 2024 Trax ACTIV model, there is no denying that it is one of the best affordable cars anyone can buy.
Head-To-Head
In a recent head-to-head between the Chevy Trax and the Honda HR-V, Edmunds.com, a legendary automotive journalism website, put the two vehicles together to see which really is the better value. Spoiler alert: they had this to say about the Trax: “The Chevy Trax is a compelling small crossover that goes big on interior quality, space and value. Honda’s HR-V does little wrong but it’s been upstaged in this contest. The Trax is the better buy.”
Price & Features
With a base MSRP of just $21,495 for the LS trim, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is a bargain. It comes standard with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen display. Higher trim levels are available with an 11-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as is a WiFi hotspot. The top Activ trim will only run buyers $24,995. All Trax models feature Chevy Safety Assist as standard, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist. Cruise control is standard across the range, and Adaptive Cruise Control is available on certain trim levels.
Edmunds’ Words
“But the Honda falls short in the seat comfort department, with stiff front buckets with overly firm cushions. The Trax’s front seats are flat … they’re nicely padded and comfortable for long drives … Chevy didn’t need to make the interior of its least expensive vehicle attractive, but it went above and beyond the call of duty, giving the Trax a cabin that looks and feels like one from a more expensive car. The controls are laid out intuitively, and the standard 8-inch and available 11-inch touchscreens are big and easy to use. The Trax is roomy, too. There’s enough legroom and headroom for adults in the back seat, and cargo volume stands at an impressive 25.6 cubic feet, which is more than just about every other entry in the category.”

Honda = More Expensive, Less Intuitive
The rest of the article shows a great love affair for the Trax, as it offers standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, something that is only available on the Honda with an option on the highest trim level. The base model Chevrolet is $4,455 less expensive than the HR-V, and Edmunds found that the adaptive cruise control was easier to use and overall better than the Honda’s. They said the system in the Trax easily kept up with traffic while not leaving a huge gap between the vehicles in front. The Honda HR-V, however, was slow to react and too eager to stop.
Engine, Power, & Fuel Efficiency
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax has a 1.2-liter ECOTEC turbocharged inline-3 that produces 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The EPA-estimated fuel mileage is 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
