2026 JD Power The Voice of The Customer Trophy

J.D. Power is known for its vehicle quality studies, which have spanned over 50 years. Its best-known study is the Initial Quality Study, which surveys new owners about possible defects in their newly purchased vehicles. But if you really want a sense of how your car will treat you, look at the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which surveys owners on how reliable their vehicles were over a three-year period. Many Chevrolet and other GM models did quite well in the 2025 edition of this study, and this Twin Falls Chevrolet post gives you the details.

The 2025 U.S. VDS dates back 36 years with the purpose of measuring long-term vehicle reliability.  It is based on responses gathered from 34,175 original owners of 2022 model-year vehicles after a three-year ownership period. Problems are separated into nine vehicle system categories:

  • Climate
  • Driving Assistance
  • The Driving Experience
  • Exterior
  • Features/Controls/Displays
  • Infotainment
  • Interior
  • Powertrain
  • Seats

The 2025 survey was conducted from August to November 2024. The models are ranked based on problems per 100 vehicles, while brand scores are based on a weighted average of the model scores.

Overall, GM vehicles received the most model-level awards.  Among previous brands, Cadillac ranked second with a score of 169, which again means 169 problems among 100 vehicles, or 1.69 problems per vehicle over the three years of ownership.  Among mass-market brands, Buick, which shares many engines and platforms with Chevrolet, ranked the highest in dependability.  Chevrolet was not far behind with a score of 169, ranking fifth overall and tying with Cadillac. In fact, all GM brands ranked well above the industry average, with Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC clustered together and above brands like Honda, BMW, and Porsche.

In this same study, Ford ranked 13th at 208,  six points below the industry average of 202.  The other large domestic truck maker, Ram, ranked 21st with a score of 242.

As for those model-level awards, Chevrolet received the following:

  • Silverado –  Large Light Duty Pickup Category, First-place ranking
  • Silverado HD –  Large Heavy-Duty Pickup Category, First-place ranking
  • Tahoe – Large SUV Category, First-place ranking
  • Corvette – Premium Sporty Car Category, First-place ranking

“At GM, we prioritize quality in everything we do, with a goal of providing customers with the best vehicle experience over the course of their ownership years,” said Marcos Purty, vice president, global quality, supplier quality and Operational Excellence, General Motors. “Earning J.D. Power Awards for vehicle dependability reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence.”

When it comes to dependability across much of the time you will be making payments you will do well to look at Chevrolet models, and the place to see them in southern Idaho is Twin Falls Chevrolet.
