The turn of a new year often brings several “best of” lists from automotive publications around the world. The early days of 2024 are no different, but we’ve got some exciting new models to talk about among the lists this year, including the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Motor Authority recently published its list of the best cars to buy in 2024, and the Z06 is a finalist, facing off against the Acura Integra Type S, BMW M2, and more.

Motor Authority said the Z06 “finally gives the C8 the powertrain the chassis deserves.” In place of the 6.2-liter LT2 V8, Chevy gave the Z06 a 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crank that revs to the heavens and makes a wonderful sound while doing it. Output lands at an impressive 670 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel drive.

If you’re reading that and thinking performance numbers will be strong, you’re correct. The figures are staggering: 2.6 seconds 0-60 mph, 1.22 G lateral force, and an 8600 rpm redline give the car its breathtaking driving experience. Chevy moved to a mid-engine design in 2020, which gave the Corvette more balanced handling and responsive cornering than the previous front-engine design. It also allows engineers to give the car more power while maintaining traction.

That brutal performance doesn’t come at the cost of luxury, as Chevy equips a long list of desirable features. The Z06’s GT1 bucket seats come with Mulan leather upholstery, and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard, accompanied by an 8-inch touchscreen. Other standard tech features include a Bose ten-speaker stereo, SiriusXM, radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.

Chevrolet’s infotainment system is colorful, nicely contrasted, and easy to use while driving. Menus are clearly labeled, and navigating through various settings is more intuitive than most would probably expect. On top of that, the car comes with a long list of standard features that add to its value and make it much easier to live with on a daily basis.

Chevy offers the Z06 in coupe and convertible body styles, but like all other current Corvettes, both models have open-top driving capabilities. The Z06 has a wider body than the Stingray, which fits wider wheels and gives the car larger cooling vents to keep its V8 happy.

All Z06s come with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, active handling stability control with traction control, performance traction management, rear parking assist, an HD rearview camera system, lane keep assist with lane departure warnings, forward collision alerts, a teen driver mode, and OnStar.
