Equinox or Equinox EV: What Is The Difference?

April 20th, 2025 by

You might notice two new vehicles bearing the Chevrolet Equinox name. What is the difference between them? With help from the New Atlas website, we are here to explain why there are two Chevrolet Equinox models.

First of all, these are two completely different vehicles of about the same size. One is on a platform powered by an internal combustion engine, while the other is the Equinox EV, which is based on an all-electric drive platform.

Design-wise, they are very different from each other. You can tell both apart by their rooflines, side glass profile, and front and rear designs. New Atlas went as far as to say that the Equinox EV was “more Camaro-like by comparison.”

Both vehicles are comparable interior-wise. They have practically the same passenger volume, which yields a comfortable place for four to five people. There are some differences, such as cargo volume and overall interior height. However, whether it is a short hop or a road trip over the Rockies, one would feel comfortable in either vehicle.

The electric version has all-wheel drive, producing 300 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. When fully charged, the Environmental Protection Agency rated the e-AWD model’s range at 285 miles. The Equinox, with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, continuously variable transmission, and all-wheel drive, has a driving range of 406 miles based on a highway rating of 29 MPG.

Both the Equinox and Equinox EV offer a high level of technology and connectivity. For example, you will find Google Built-In in both SUVs. By logging into your Google account, you do not need to tether a smartphone to the infotainment system. Just let Google Assistant get you directions to download into Google Maps. You do have the option of connecting your smartphone wirelessly, as well.

While the dashboard set-up may look the same, the Equinox EV has a larger infotainment screen than the Equinox. Aside from Google Built-in and wireless smartphone integration, they are formatted similarly. Except for a few things, you might not be able to tell the difference between the two Equinox models behind the wheel.

When it comes to price, both the Equinox and Equinox EV are very good values. A 2025 Equinox LT starts with an MSRP of $28,600, while the Equinox EV LT starts with an MSRP of $33,600—before any Federal Tax Credits. As both vehicles are friendly to the wallet, you cannot go wrong with either.
