​​Flint Truck Assembly Produces its 16 millionth Vehicle – a Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD​

Flint, Michigan, has been home to General Motors since its inception. Over the years, it has grown in importance as a major part of the automaker’s production history. Today, Flint Truck Assembly is currently GM’s longest-running production facility in the U.S.A. That tells you a lot about the legacy that Flint’s facilities still offer to the world.  

Opened in 1947, the production facility was one of the first post-war assembly plants dedicated to meet the growing demand for automobiles upon the return of our military personnel from Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. Since then, they have produced a variety of GM vehicles for markets here and abroad.  

Flint Assembly became the birthplace of the Chevrolet Corvette. The first 300 units were assembled in 1953, delivering a new experience to American car enthusiasts. GM’s 50 millionth vehicle was assembled in Flint – a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. The facility also assembled various generations of the Impala, Bel Air models, as well as the first Monte Carlos. In fact, a 1970 Monte Carlo was GM’s 70-millionth unit.  

Aside from cars, Flint also produced trucks. That began with the Chevrolet Advance-Design, built from 1947 to 1955. They brought GM trucks to the post-war era. In the 1970s and 1980s, Flint also produced the “Square” C/K Series pickup trucks.  

In 2019, the Silverado HD became the leading vehicle assembled in Flint. Each heavy-duty pickup truck made there is a testament to those who built every one. A sense of pride unmatched elsewhere in the automotive industry backed by a simple phrase: “Built to Last.”

The 16 millionth unit just happens to be a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab LTZ in Lakeshore Blue Metallic. What makes this specific pickup truck special is that it is powered by the 3.5-millionth Duramax 6.6-liter V8 turbocharged diesel engine, made at the DMAX Assembly facility in Moraine, Ohio.
