The cause of the CEL could be a variety of things from a gas cap that has a bad seal, or wasn’t tightened all the way, bad sensors and loose wires, low oil level and so many other potential causes. If you were to visit an auto parts store, their “free diagnostic” is a simple scan of the computer to find a trouble code. These codes help narrow down where to look, not necessarily provide you with an answer of what caused the fault to begin with.  Our technicians are trained to find that root cause, allowing you to schedule the repair, or know it is nothing serious.
