J.D. Power Reviews the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe RST

June 10th, 2025 by

For many, an SUV with three rows to accommodate friends or visiting relatives is the ideal family vehicle. Fortunately, the Chevrolet Tahoe is spacious, comfortable, and capable of towing large trailers with ease. J.D. Power reviewed the 2025 Tahoe RST, and Twin Falls Chevrolet provides the highlights.

The RST is the sportiest Tahoe trim, setting aside off-road imagery for an aggressive on-road appearance. The model comes standard with a 5.3-liter gas V8, but the model J.D. Power reviewed included the available 6.2-liter gas V8, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic. The RST offers a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, the latter of which was on J.D. Power’s tester. In addition to the bigger engine, options on its model included:

  • Second-row captain’s chairs
  • 24-inch Carbon Flash Metallic wheels
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • RST Capability package
  • Comfort package
  • Max Trailering package

This healthy set of options brought the test vehicle’s price to $83,880. However, in its opinion, some items could be omitted. At the top of that list were the 24-inch wheels. While they look great and do not look oversized on the large SUV, J.D. Power found that the thin-sidewall tires wrapped around the large wheels allowed too many bumps and road irregularities to be felt. The editors recommend the standard 22-inch wheels for a smoother ride, which the Tahoe can provide thanks to its independent rear suspension—something not common in this class.

J.D. Power also found that it preferred the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six engine. While it has comparatively less horsepower at 305, its 495 lb-ft of torque made the Tahoe feel suitably muscular for whatever you threw at it while being surprisingly quiet.

All Tahoe models benefit from a revised interior featuring a new dash. It now includes the same 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and 11.0-inch digital display found in other Chevrolet models. The editors found the touchscreen attractive and easy to use. They were impressed by how the screen followed the non-rectangular shape of the housing. Even the volume knob was positioned within the screen. The 11.0-inch driver’s display is configurable, allowing it to provide plenty of information or just what you need. J.D. Power considers it a significant improvement over the previous analog gauge display.

Unlike GM’s EV models, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not only compatible but also wireless. Additionally, the Google Built-in operating system includes the popular integrated Google Maps for navigation, even without a paired smartphone. A fixed set of icons at the top of the screen facilitates switching between systems. Permanent climate controls at the bottom of the screen are supported by an array of physical controls below.

There is another complete set of physical controls to the left of the steering wheel for the lights, 4×4 system, drive modes, and the trailer brake controller, which is part of the trailering package. Combined with the transmission selector being moved to an easy-to-use steering column stalk, there is plenty of free space in the center console. On all but the base Tahoe trim, there is a conveniently placed wireless charger (revised from 2024 models).

The Tahoe’s size is not wasted. In what is almost a superlative endorsement, the J.D. Power editor stated that his 6-foot 3-inch frame had sufficient room for both his head and legs in the third row and further noted that the lack of thick pillars provided him with a good view through the windows.

Overall, J.D. Power found the 2025 to be a significant improvement over the previous year’s model. Plus, if it is convenient for you, the editors recommend considering the turbodiesel engine. Visit Twin Falls Chevrolet to test drive the 2025 Tahoe.
