Motor1 Praises the 2025 Silverado ZR2

ZR2 is the most off-road focused trim level in the model line, making the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 the brand’s most off-road capable full-size half-ton truck. Automotive enthusiast site Motor1.com recently reviewed the Silverado ZR2 and was so impressed that Twin Falls Chevrolet simply had to share its findings with you.
Motor1 tested a Silverado ZR2 equipped with the Duramax 3.0-liter I-6 turbodiesel engine. The vehicle had an MSRP of $70,000 and about $2,800 in options. The $2,040 Technology Package features a head-up display and adaptive cruise control. The editors also added the highly versatile Multi-Pro tailgate for $445 and the Riptide blue exterior for $395, which they praised enthusiastically.

Motor1 makes it clear: “It’s best not to mince words: The 2025 Silverado 1500 ZR2 is fantastic.” For all their praise, however, the editors believe that a truck with the ZR2’s swagger pairs best with the growl of the big V-8. “We capped a 500-mile road trip in the ZR2 with some light off-roading and even a little tow without a single misstep from the engine and drivetrain. The diesel performed flawlessly, returning EPA-expected efficiency, and that surprisingly delightful refinement in spades. But ultimately, the 6.2-liter V-8 wins on power, flexibility, and aura. If you can afford the V-8, do it.”

Those who tow frequently might feel differently. Of course, the 6.2-liter V-8 falls short of the Duramax’s 20 (city)/23 (highway)/21 (combined) mpg, achieving a respectable 14/17/15 mpg. The diesel’s 40% improvement in combined fuel mileage is somewhat offset by the cost of diesel fuel, which is approximately 13% more per gallon than gasoline.

Motor1 joins the legions of reviewers who praise the Multimatic dampers fitted on both the Silverado ZR2 and the Colorado ZR2. GM contacted Multimatic and asked them to create dampers based on the same architecture utilized in their racing components. The result is dampers that can take all the abuse—keeping the vehicle stable during rough off-roading—and yet provide what Motor1 refers to as “class-leading ride quality.” It is this ability to perform flawlessly both on- and off-road that distinguishes the ZR2 from its competitors.
They found the interior’s 12.3-inch driver’s gauge cluster and 13.4-inch center touchscreen appealing, which they described as “laid out in an efficient and visually pleasing manner.” They praised the surround camera feature and rear cross-traffic alert for helping them navigate the large truck in tight spaces. They also appreciated the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

They essentially brand the ZR2 as the truck that can do it all, regardless of which engine you choose. If that sounds like the truck for you, visit Twin Falls Chevrolet and check out a Silverado ZR2 for yourself.
