MSN Finds the Trax Excelling at Everything that Counts

Crossovers now make up most of the vehicles sold in the US.  They come in many sizes, from full-size, midsize, compact, sub-compact, and, in a couple of cases, even smaller than subcompact. Crossovers have even replaced small sedans and hatchbacks for several brand’s lowest-price offerings.  Built to a price, it can be challenging for many of these small crossovers to gain much interest from the automotive press, but if any model bucks that convention, it is the Chevrolet Trax.  Ever since its 2024 redesign, the Trax has surprised automotive reviewers with its combination of style, practicality, overall livability, and, of course, value.  As an example, Microsoft’s web portal MSN took a look at the Trax 2RS and walked away impressed. Twin Falls Chevrolet gives you the highlights.  

One thing that impressed them was that even though the Trax 2RS is a top trim level for the Trax, it still has an MSRP in the mid-20s ($23,400).  They point out that the top trim of the Honda HR-V starts at $27,650 and the top model of the Mazda CX-30 starts at $36,800, though admittedly, the CX-30’s turbocharged 2.5-liter engine makes it something of the muscle car of the segment. 

No one makes such a claim about the Trax’s turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine.  With 137 horsepower and a generous 162 lb-ft of torque, no one finds it lacking in fulfilling the Trax’s assigned mission. MSN calls it a “peppy little engine” and goes on to point out that “…the Trax 2RS is designed with smooth and responsive handling in mind, thanks to its well-tuned suspension and compact size.”  With no all-wheel drive on offer (look to the similarly sized Trailblazer for that) they point out that the Trax is most at home on city streets where “Thanks to its small stature, tight turning circle, low stance, and responsive handling, this Chevy model stands out as an urban SUV that combines usability, a low city fuel consumption of 28 MPG, and techy features that keep you, other road users, cyclists, and pedestrians safe.” 

Not to be overlooked is the Trax’s style.  With the same bold face as other Chevrolet crossovers, featuring a sleek roofline and strong side character lines, every angle of the Trax communicates “Sporty” rather than “economy.”  The 2RS takes all this and adds 19-inch machined two-tone wheels, blacked-out grille, and badging.  Inside are attractive red accents, heated seats with 8-way power driver’s adjustment, an 8-inch digital driver information center, and an 11-inch center touchscreen, among other upgrades, again, with a price in the mid-20s. 

Nor does the Trax skimp on safety features, with MSN pointing out that the Trax model line features all the following:

• Braking Control (using ECM)

MSN sums up its review of the Trax by saying, “The 2024 Trax “hits the sweet spot,” packing in lots of important details which matter, and cutting costs on things that don’t matter. If you are looking for an affordable but good-quality car, keep reading. My priorities are: 

1.  Safety 
2.  Value 
3. Comfort 
4. Look.  

The Trax excels at all of these 4.”
