OnStar Expands Offering New Member Services and App

Twin Falls Chevrolet new car purchasers and other GM vehicle owners have come to know and trust the little blue OnStar button above their heads for more than 25 years. What started as a button to provide instant access to emergency services expanded to automatically send information about the vehicle’s condition and GPS location to OnStar call centers, on-demand vehicle diagnostics, enable stolen vehicle tracking, and even provide turn-by-turn navigation. With the new OnStar Guardian app, OnStar has now expanded its services to motorcycles and even in the home.

OnStar on Your Motorcycle

Motorcyclists using the OnStar Guardian can now avail themselves of the following services:

• Detecting when a member is riding or driving using the smartphone’s sensors. It also can determine when a change in acceleration occurs, signaling a crash.
• Notifications to OnStar Advisors in the case of an emergency, who are able to triage a situation, connect with first responders and provide temporary medical assistance.
• Roadside Assistance to members in need of towing, a jump, or even gasoline.

At Home with Alexa

For the home, OnStar has teamed up with Amazon Alexa. This means if you have an Alexa device in your home, you can simply say, “Alexa, call for help!” and you will be connected to a trained OnStar Emergency advisor. 

OnStar Insurance Can Help You Save

OnStar Insurance can offer rates based on how you drive, so if you are a safe driver, you will be rewarded. In addition to the savings for safe driving behaviors, there are discounts for having advanced safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward and Rear Collision Mitigation, which OnStar will automatically detect.

Though they interact, OnStar and OnStar Insurance, so subscribing to one does not obligate you to the other. Every new vehicle sold at Twin Falls Chevrolet has OnStar capability, but the services are not available until the system is activated. The Vehicle Diagnostics, Dealer Maintenance Notification, Chevrolet Smart Driver, and Marketplace services are free for 10 years after a new vehicle purchase.
