The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Shatters the Quarter Mile 

In the 73-year history of the Chevrolet Corvette, there has never been anything that can run a quarter mile at as astounding a pace as the American Sports Car. Not at a quarter mile run of 8.675 seconds at 159 MPH. Or a 0-60 MPH time of 1.68 seconds.  

That is how fast the 2026 Corvette ZR1X was clocked in a recent speed run conducted by General Motors. It has proven that it is indeed the quickest American production car on sale, along with being the fastest vehicle available for under a million dollars.  

The run was conducted at US 131 Motorsports Park near Kalamazoo, Michigan. The drag racing course was prepped for a very quick run. The 2026 ZR1X wore factory-fitted Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on carbon-fiber wheels. It also wore the standard aerodynamic configuration, with an incredible downforce for both front and rear. Otherwise, there were no modifications or calibrations beyond what came from the assembly line.  

The results were amazing. Aside from the times quoted above, it took only 100 feet to achieve 60 MPH. It also accomplished a lateral acceleration of 1.75G.  

These figures were accomplished at the hands of Corvette development engineer and test driver Stefan Frick. His setup in the 2026 ZR1X involved using the Corvette’s standard Custom Launch Control feature. This feature is found throughout the lineup, from Stingray to ZR1X, and manages tire spin, transmission clutch application rate, and numerous other parameters. Ultimately, this allows the driver to optimize acceleration runs by adjusting launch RPM and wheel-slip targets on the auxiliary driver display. 

It is also worth noting that the 2026 ZR1X set a lap time of 6:49.275 minutes on the famed Nürburgring circuit in Germany.  

The most advanced Corvette ever developed, the 2026 ZR1X is a masterpiece of engineering built on the eighth-generation of America’s Sports Car. It starts behind the cockpit with the custom-built LT7 twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter dual-overhead-camshaft V8. The flat-plane crankshaft enables this V8 to achieve higher revs and induces a level of motivation never seen in a Corvette.  

In addition, an electric motor is mounted at the front axle. This is not just for the added traction and grip expected in an all-wheel-drive vehicle, but also to create a balanced power delivery across the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. Combined, the entire driveline is rated at 1,250 horsepower. 

The 2026 ZR1X can accomplish the stated figures above, equipped with the ZTK Track Performance Package. This upgrades the 2026 ZR1X with Magnetic Selective Ride Control and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires. This package is also available on the 2026 ZR1.  

Even though the 2026 ZR1X is the fastest production vehicle ever produced by Chevrolet, every Corvette has been tested to accomplish the 0-60 MPH sprint in under three seconds. For example, a 2026 Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package can do this sprint in just 2.9 seconds.
