The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Is Motor1.com’s Best Truck of 2024

February 15th, 2025 by

When it comes to handling rough terrain, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is ready to tackle. In fact, it started a whole new type of mid-size pickup truck—one that is ready to go off the highway and beyond.

However, is it the best pickup truck out there? According to Motor1.com, it is. In fact, the Colorado ZR2 Bison was named the website’s Best Truck of 2024. In selecting the Colorado ZR2 Bison, Motor1.com said, “The Bison trim amps up the rock-crawling prowess of the ZR2 pickup, which is already the smoothest-riding, sickest-looking, best-handling pickup on earth.”

We couldn’t agree more. Here’s why.

The Colorado is the mid-size pickup truck you can count on. With turbocharged power from the 2.7-liter TurboMax engine, it can do what you ask it to. The ZR2’s High Output engine raises the low-end torque to 430 pound-feet. That enables the Colorado to get through rougher terrain without hesitation.

That power needs a bit of help when it comes to dealing with the unknown ahead. The ZR2 has a drive mode for that called Baja. Putting it into Baja mode optimizes power delivery, stability, and traction control when driving over sandy or snowy terrain. You also have Off-Road and Terrain modes to choose from that can handle the powdery stuff or the rocky remains of a trail.

The Colorado ZR2 can’t tackle these conditions by itself. You need a suspension system that works to keep your pickup truck right on track. The Multimatic DSSV dampers do the job of softening the ride overall, helping equalize uneven surfaces and keeping the Colorado ZR2 poised throughout your maneuver.

The additional protection provided by American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) found on and underneath the Colorado ZR2 gives the special ZR2 its Bison distinction. AEV adds five boron steel skid plates, along with specific front and rear bumpers for keeping this pickup truck from incurring any potential damage from loose terrain and any other obstacles. A set of 35-inch all-terrain tires are added for managing traction and keeping the rubber on the surface. Adding larger tires gives the Colorado ZR2 Bison a ground clearance of 12.2 inches, which is best-in-class.

While it is built for any condition and terrain, the Colorado ZR2 Bison is also well equipped with the latest technology. Through the 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, you have access to Google built-in and innovative camera technology, including segment-first available underbody cameras that offer real-time forward- and rear-facing views beneath the truck. In all, you have ten camera views to choose from to make sure you manage the maneuvers without guessing what’s ahead and underneath your pickup truck.

The sum of all of these are the reasons why Motor1.com chose the Colorado ZR2 Bison as its Best Truck of 2024. We believe that it should be your truck of the year. Contact us at Twin Falls Chevrolet to see how the Colorado ZR2 Bison could be a good fit for you.
