The Chevrolet Trax SUV Is Affordable Daily Transportation Done Right

The Chevrolet Trax is one of the most attractive vehicles for any buyer looking for a new vehicle. Its affordable starting point of just $21,495 is great for people just leaving college and trying to start their careers, or empty nesters who don’t really need anything too big or fancy but still want something stylish and feature-rich that sits up a little higher and has good room for their groceries or extra-curriculars.
Trims, Power, and Fuel Economy
Buyers can choose between four different trim options when purchasing a Trax, including LS, LT, RS, and Activ. All models feature a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that develops 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that puts power to the front wheels. The conservative horsepower figure is aided by good gearing and a low weight of roughly 3,000 pounds. The EPA says the Trax gets 28 mpg (city) and 32 mpg (highway).

A Business Insider Review
Benjamin Zhang of Business Insider recently took a Trax 2RS for a week around Atlanta and found it to be a great crossover SUV in a day and age where the average car price has jumped up so high; a loaded Chevy Trax 2RS or Activ will only run you $25,395.

The Interior Is High Quality
When discussing some of the things that made the Trax so great, Zhang highlighted the interior, saying, “The Chevrolet Trax is a great example of delivering an interior on a budget without it feeling cheap … Interior quality is good, and there are plenty of soft-touch materials in the high-contact area. The red turbine-design air vents that felt out of place in the pricier Blazer EV worked well here to add a pop of color and visual appeal to the cabin.”
Not only is the interior great (especially for the price), it is also quite large. Trax features 25.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 54.1 cubic feet with the seats folded. As a whole, the interior gives passengers tons of space, especially those in the rear seat. The back seat provides 2.5 more inches of legroom than a Mazda CX-30 and 6 more inches than a Toyota Corolla Cross.
What Did Business Insider Say in the End?
It’s difficult to discuss the Trax and not bring up value, which is what Zhang said in his conclusion: “Dollars and cents aside, where the Chevrolet Trax really shines is that it feels more expensive than it actually is. And that sounds like a good deal to me.”
Safety Isn’t an Option, It’s Standard
More than anything else, though, the Trax is also very safe, with all models coming with Chevy Safety Assist as standard, which includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist. Cruise control is standard across the range, and Adaptive Cruise Control is an available option on certain trim levels.
