Chevrolet Celebrates America’s 250th Birthday With A Road Trip
America is turning the big two-five-oh, and she doesn’t look a day over 200. While Chevrolet isn’t nearly as old, the company will celebrate 115 years in 2026. And over those hundred-plus years, the company has been part of the beating heart of the American dream.
Free Travel in America Thanks to Chevrolet and The Interstate System
Millions of cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans have been sold to people across this country to support their lives in different ways. And when the interstate system began in 1956 (technically not completed until 1992), Chevrolet was one of the brands people chose to drive on the newly created 41,000 miles of freeways across the country.

A Unique New App to Celebrate So Much of America
General Motors, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and HERE Technologies worked together to create a special app called Explore250 to celebrate the unique places across America. The app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and it offers a great companion that lists over 250 extraordinary places to visit across the country, including the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and the Route 66 Museum in Victorville, California. The app allows you to plan a trip and collect digital “stamps” along the way.

A Word from The Transportation Secretary
“What better way is there to see what makes America the greatest country on earth than a good old-fashioned road trip,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “In partnership with GM, I’m thrilled to launch Explore250 to encourage every American to plan an unforgettable journey and celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday. This innovative app will help families map out their routes, uncover hidden gems, and connect with the rich tapestry of our proud history – all from the driver’s seat. Start your engines, America!”
Some Places You Should See for Yourself
Some of the highlights that are unforgettable drives include the Overseas Highway, a 113-mile highway in the Florida Keys with 42 bridges; the original Route 66 throughout the mid- and southwest of America that is considered the heart of American car culture; The Pacific Coast highway in California, another beautiful destination complete with ocean cliffs, wine country, and great surfing; US-2 that will have you witnessing the raw beauty of Lake Michigan; and I-90 that goes from Seattle, Washington, all the way to Boston, Massachusetts. At 3,099.7 miles long and going through 13 states, there isn’t a bigger stretch of highway in America.

A Word from Mary Barra
“At GM, we’re proud to be part of the American story – building world-class vehicles, supporting good jobs, and helping people explore our beautiful country,” said Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of General Motors. “With Explore250, we’re making the journey more convenient and enjoyable so families can focus on making memories on the road.”
